The purpose of the initial client interview is to interpret the concerns, existence, and behavior in an implementable psychopathological model. It is one that leads to the classification of diagnoses and other therapeutic decisions. All interviews are unique, and adult interviews vary considerably from those of adolescents or children. Nevertheless, the main aim of collecting data within a psychiatric interview is still the same, and a consistently applied format is useful (American Psychiatric Association, 2016). My initial client interview (attached) aims to evaluate the symptoms shown by clients by the use of structured questions to educate them about differential diagnoses.
The interview format that my preceptor uses is similar to mine. It begins by setting up the initial connection with the patient concerning discussing the problems or complaints. The patient is encouraged as much as possible to pursue his or her own ways of thought (Adams and Black, 2016). In the process of raising certain issues, the related family and medical background are addressed, and patients can ask critical questions regarding treatment recommendations Interview Format Essay Discussion Paper.

The element that is the most useful in my interview format is utilizing open-ended questions. Posing open-ended questions to the client during the initial interview encourages him or her to talk about their experience in his or her own words (Fritzsche et al., 2020). By letting the client talk using different cues, I can recognize the client’s issue preliminarily. I normally sum up my understanding of the issue as well as the client’s concerns and interests once the client has finished their response to the initial general questions. After that is done, I then create some ideas about the client’s best preferences based on his or her answers to the preliminary questions (Jull et al., 2018) Interview Format Essay Discussion Paper
Despite what you may believe (or may have been told), there is no such thing as one “right” way to do an interview. In fact, there are numerous books written about the various ways of conducting the clinical interview. In actual clinical practice, you will find the format that “works” best for you and addresses your unique strengths and the needs of the client. In this Discussion, you will practice finding the interview format that works for you and share those ideas with your colleagues for feedback. To prepare for this Discussion: Review the Learning Resources. Develop an interview format you would use for an initial interview of a client. By Day 3 Post: Attach the interview format document you would use for an initial interview of a client. Describe what interview format your preceptor uses for the initial interview of a client. Describe which element of your interview format is most helpful in your practice.
